Account Permissions: The Invisible Time Drain
Onboarding a new media buyer takes half a day. Go to TikTok, find the BC, find the member, find accounts, bind, pick role — repeat for 5 ad accounts. One person is manageable. Three joining the same week? Painful.
Someone left 3 months ago. They still have access. Nobody deliberately keeps ex-employees on accounts. TikTok just doesn't have a "view all accounts by member" panel to make revocation easy.
No clear permission overview. 20 accounts, 8 team members in one BC. Who is ADMIN where? Who is ANALYST? TikTok only lets you check one account at a time.
Two Views, Batch Operations
By Ad Account
Lists all ad accounts under the BC. Find the target account → bind members → select one or more members + choose role → submit. You can also view who currently has access and unbind anyone.
Best for: "This account needs to be accessible by these people."
By Member
Lists all BC members (only BOUND status members can be assigned). Find the target member → bind accounts → select one or more accounts + choose role → submit. You can also view what a member currently has and revoke selectively.
Best for: "This person needs access to these accounts" — onboarding, role changes, and offboarding.
Batch Operations
Select 3 accounts × select 2 members = 6 permission pairs. One submit. Each pair returns success or failure independently. Partial failure doesn't roll back successful bindings. One batch = one role. Different roles need separate batches.
Three Roles
| Role | Best For |
|---|---|
| ADMIN | Account managers who need to manage permissions |
| OPERATOR | Media buyers running day-to-day campaigns |
| ANALYST | Team members who only need data access |
Follow least-privilege: ANALYST for view-only, OPERATOR for campaign ops, ADMIN only when account management is genuinely needed.
How It Works
Onboard a New Member Select auth (must be BC ADMIN) → select BC → By Member tab → find member → bind accounts → choose role → submit.
Revoke Departing Member's Access By Member tab → find member → unbind → review assigned accounts → select accounts to revoke → confirm.
Grant Multiple Buyers Access to One Account By Ad Account tab → find account → bind → select multiple members + unified role → submit.
Audit Permissions By Ad Account tab → find account → open unbind view to see authorized members (don't select or confirm — view only).
Problems Solved
- Onboarding permissions: from manual one-by-one to batch in seconds
- Offboarding revocation: member view shows all assigned accounts at a glance
- Permission audit: reverse lookup by account or by member — no TikTok console hunting
- Real-time sync to TikTok BC — page reflects actual state
Frequently Asked Questions
Does being a team admin in AdRate guarantee binding ability?
No. Binding requires your TikTok auth identity to have ADMIN role in the selected Business Center. AdRate team admin ≠ TikTok BC ADMIN.
Why can't I select some members?
Only BOUND members (officially joined the BC) can receive account assignments. PENDING (awaiting acceptance) and REJECTED members are not selectable.
Does unbinding delete the account or the member?
No. Unbinding only revokes that member's permission to use that specific ad account. The member stays in the BC. The account stays active.
What if batch operations partially fail?
Successful pairs are already in effect. Handle only the failed pairs — no need to redo the entire batch. Failures typically stem from permission changes, member status changes, or temporary TikTok service issues.
Can I change a member's role after binding?
The current page focuses on bind/unbind operations. To change a role (e.g., ANALYST → OPERATOR), unbind first, then rebind with the new role.
